Music & Fine Arts Department Summary

 

Graduation Requirements:   One semester of Music; One semester of Art

                                    Courses to be taken at Stuyvesant High School

At the instrumental auditions, students are expected to play a prepared piece, play scales, and sight-read. 

 

Although the number of classes of a given subject is based on the number of student requests for that subject, staffing considerations often make it impossible to accommodate all student requests.

 

Ninth Grade Students will be programmed for either:

A.     A1 or U1 (one in the Spring, the other in the Fall)

B.     UV65 (Concert Chorus),UVCC (Chamber Choir),( USIT, USAT, UMSO (Orchestra program), UWTI, UWTA, UDSB & UDJZ (Band program), in place of U1. Enrollment in these courses is by audition only.

Students in the Concert Chorus or in the instrumental music program will be programmed for A1 in the Fall or Spring term (adding one period to their school day).  Students must participate in these groups for three semesters  to receive credit for the Music Appreciation (U1) requirement.

 

Tenth Grade Students:

A.     Students who have been selected for the instrumental or vocal programs (option “B”) will continue. Upon completion of three semesters they will receive credit for U1.

B.     Students who have complete U1 and A1, or their equivalents, may select one of the following electives—if there is room in their programs:

UNOP, UVCC, UTX, UTPS, ALK, ADSI, ALSA, APWC

 

 

Eleventh Grade Students:

C.     Students who have been selected for the instrumental or vocal programs will continue.

D.    Students who have complete U1 and A1, or their equivalents, may select one of the following electives:

UNOP, UVCC, UTX, UTPS, ALK, ADSI, ALSA, APWC

 

Twelfth Grade Students:

A.     Students who have been selected for the instrumental or vocal programs will continue.

B.     Upon completion of the third year, students in the Band, Orchestra or Choral sequence will have their 10 period senior Technology requirement waived.

C.     Students who have completed A1 may select AP47 (Acrylic Painting).  This class may be used to fulfill the 10 period senior Technology requirement and/or their senior elective requirement.

F.      For students who have complete U1 and A1, or their equivalents the following courses are available as a senior elective:

UNOP, UVCC, UTX, UTPS, ALK, ADSI, ALSA, APWC
